December 2015 Proof Round  

WestGen is pleased to provide a quick snapshot of the proof highlights as they relate to our new lineup. Without a doubt it is a proof round with lots of positive news and new sires to consider for your herd. Thanks go to WestGen genetic advisors Carl Barclay and Michael Haambuckers with their research in providing these proof highlights!

DOORMAN (Bookem x Shottle x Goldwyn)

The long-awaited proof everyone has been waiting for! Doorman delivered a +20 GMACE type proof (based on his US daughters). First it was his heifers and more recently the excitement has been mounting as milking daughters have been popping up everywhere. And they are impressive! Currently in Canada Doorman has 91 daughters classified and is 87% GP and better with almost 30% of his daughters scoring VG as 2yr olds. Look to Doorman to leave extremely well attached mammary systems (+16), with a +14 for fore attachment, with +11 for rear udder height. His daughters have width all the way through right from their chest to their pins. All this and he is Immunity+!

SMURF (Snowman x Planet x Lou)

Debuting as the #1 daughter proven Snowman son, Smurf ranks #4 for both GLPI and Pro$. He combines high type with extreme milk yields, highlighted by double digits for all udder attachments. His signature trait is udder width where his +16 rating puts him tops among all of our Proven and Genomax bulls. He is also noted for delivering shallow mammary systems (8s) despite the +2506 kg rating for milk. Smurf offers 142kgs of combined fat and protein as well and note that he is one of the highest bulls on the list for rump improvement at +10 with +11 for pin width. Smurf is a proven calving ease sire at 105.

SYMPATICO-RDC (Snowman X Planet x Bolton)

Sympatico is an excellent all-around bull combining high milk (+1421) and fat (+68) yields with strong Type improvement (+12). He’s among our best feet and legs improvers (+14) delivering excellent Heel Depth (+11) and mobility (+11 Rear Leg Rear View). And for the red enthusiasts out there here is also a red carrier. Look for this Robot Ready sire to widen rear udders (+12) and improve pin setting (+9). Not insignificantly, Sympatico may be our new go-to heifer bull rated 110 for calving ability.  Sympatico goes back to the Gen-I-Beq Goldwyn Secret VG-87-2yr 11* cow. Did we mention he is a red carrier?

PENTAGON (Snowman X Shottle x Durham)

Graduating from Semex’ US sampling program, Pentagon makes his daughter-proven debut in Canada offering a nice balance of Production and Type. This +15 type Robot Ready Snowman son is among our proven Conformation leaders based on his Canadian MACE Type proof. In particular, his Feet & Leg ratings stand out (+14) – especially his great tracking prediction (+13 for rear legs rear view). Pentagon will also lower pins (2L) and his +9 for Dairy Strength suggests powerful dairy frames.  He boasts a 108 HerdLife, low SCS (2.57) and a 103 on daughter fertility.  With 1348kgs of milk and positive fat deviations Pentagon holds his own on Production too.  This bull traces to the Windy-Knoll-View Ultimate Pala cow family.

LET IT SNOW (Snowman X Planet x Shottle)

It is that time of year – fitting then to have Let It Snow graduate to the daughter proven side of the proof sheet after a long run previously on our Genomax list. Let It Snow daughters have very well attached and especially wide rear udders (+13). They are also well attached both fore (+8) and high in the rear (+9) with excellent texture (+9).  Let It Snow will lower pins (6L) and widen (+6) rumps. He delivers lots of milk (1642 kgs) and is positive for fat and protein deviations. Let It Snow is out of the very prominent Lylehaven Lila Z family and is available in sexed form as well.

ACAPULCO (Snowman x Goldwyn x Durham)

He’s hot – just like the holiday destination in Mexico! This newly proven sire combines the best of Snowman with the strengths of Goldwyn. He’s a highly rated Milk sire (+1555kgs) with a strong mammary system rating (+10) delivering (+9) high and wide (+10) rear udders that includes the Robot Ready designation. Acapulco is an extreme improver of Feet & Legs (+17) with high values for heel depth (+13) and rear leg rear view (+16). Low rump angle (2L), Excellent Dairy Strength (+10) and above average milking temperament (104) can also be expected from Acapulco daughters.

SALOON (Iota x Planet x Bolton)

We’ll drink to that, and buy drink we mean milk! Lots of A2A2 milk! Saloon debuts with +2340kgs of milk and +165kgs of combined fat and protein. He delivers it with a +10 Dairy Strength rating too. These are strong, wide-rumped (+13) dairy cows that display deep heel (+11). With over 400 milking daughters in his debut, this former Genomax sire graduates with excellent reliability (95%). At +2456 TPI, Saloon’s US numbers are even more impressive. Profit-minded producers are sure to find this bull.

UPRIGHT (Kingboy X Uno X Baxter)

This early Kingboy son ranks #2 for LPI among genomic young bulls released in Canada. With +3398 LPI and an even more impressive DGV LPI of +3541 he is also very solid on Conformation (+15), HerdLife (113) and Daughter Fertility (111). He boasts +1193kgs of milk and over a 150kgs combined fat and protein with strong component deviations and he is a Robot Ready Sire. He is simply a genetic powerhouse!

NOVO (Doorman x Supersonic x Atwood)

Doorman’s highest available son for LPI (+3206) in Canada, Immunity+, +19 conformation, +18 mammary systems, big deviations for fat and protein, strong dairy frames, A2A2 Milk. Enough said.

BARITONE (El Bombero x Mogul x Fork) – limited availability

Our highest Pro$ sire at $2571 Baritone will appeal to producers focusing on profit. But he’s got type too with an overall rating at +16 and with a +17 for mammary systems. He also has very high ratings for Feet & Legs (+13) and in particular Heel Depth (+17) and offers ultra-low SCS at 2.36 with the Robot Ready designation. Baritone will be available in very limited quantities until early late January.

KYRIAN (Kingboy X Mogul X Snowman)

Type specialist, Kyrian, debuts with ratings of +16 for Type +15 for Udders and +13 for feet and legs.  He is strong on Milk (+1785kgs) and offers over and 150kgs of combined fat and protein with positive deviations.  Kyrian is listed at 3209 GLPI and 2601 GTPI, with 109 for HerdLife and 107 for Calving Ability. Expect shallow well attached udders on wide-rumped, wide-chested, deep-heeled cows. Kyrian is a safe choice for heifers too.

ALBANIA (Defender x McCutchen x Robust)

Albania is a Type specialist (+16) who doubles as a Production bull with a no-holes Health trait profile. With high Milk (+1673) and Fat (+71) yields, the additional combination of strong Udder (+15) and Feet & Leg (+15) improvement takes on greater meaning – add HerdLife (112) and you have yourself an extremely complete bull. His dam is a full sister to the heavily used sire of sons Monterey.

RAMPARTS (Balistio X Brewmaster X Avalon)

Ramparts has an impressive +3249 GLPI rating and boasts 1858kgs of milk combined with nearly 180kgs of combined fat and protein with solid Type (+12). He excels at widening rear teat placement (5W) and lowering cell counts (2.65) and improving Milking Speed (103). Not surprisingly he is designated a Robot Ready sire.  Ramparts bull has a unique sire stack up close but goes back to the great Laurie Sheik line.

REDHOT-Red (Sympatico x Dusty x Talent)

Red alert, red alert!! RedHot is the third highest-typed genomic Red sire in the breed (+14) AND he has Milk (+678kgs) to go with his type! He’s a modern Type specialist to add some colour to your herd. There will be fancy ones!

CALEB-P (El Bomber x Castaway x Codie-P)

This new Polled bull boasts a unique pedigree and debuts with a very competitive 3137 GLPI. Caleb-P is the #1 GPA LPI polled sire in Canada! If you are focusing on increasing the polled gene in your herd this is the bull to do it with! Don’t miss out on Caleb-P.
