Thurl Placement

Bullseye September 2015

Canadian classifiers have been evaluating thurl placement for a number of years, but August 2015 represents the first time that Thurl Placement has been an officially published trait. Sires producing daughters with thurls placed back are rated with a “B” while sires that are known to produce daughters with thurls further ahead are rated with an “A” attached to their numerical score. Sires with a zero rating receive no letter, indicating ideal Thurl Placement. Practically, producers need only select against those sires that significantly move thurls back. As expected, Thurl Placement is highly correlated with Rump Angle scores.
