In December we introduced a quintet of Snowman (O Man x BW Marshall x Aaron) sons certain that his Goldwyn and Shottle-free pedigree would provide options for Western Canadian producers. This time we found two more exceptional Snowman sons too compelling to leave off the list, so we removed two others to keep it to five sons. Snowman is clearly transmitting exceptional F&L improvement with our five sons averaging almost +13 for overall F&L Score and nearly +14 for Heel Depth. What’s more, all five sire lower pins and sire excellent rear teat placement for robotic milking systems – two specific traits our members are very selective on.
Most pleasing, several of the Snowman sons introduced in December have improved impressively on their debut numbers. SMURF absorbed the annual base change and actually saw his LPI increase slightly, moving to #3 for LPI and to the overall breed-leader for Pro$ among daughter proven sires in Canada. More dramatic still, SYMPATICO, who just cracked the top 25 LPI group in December gained several hundred LPI points and with it charged up the list to #6. SMURF combines 2500 kg Milk with +11 Mammary, +12 F&L, +10 Rump scores and an overall Type rating of +13, while SYMPATICO, with 1900 kg Milk offers balanced Type highlighted by a +14 F&L score plus bankable Calving Ability at 110. These are must use bulls for any Canadian herd.

New Snowman Sons

While Doorman takes the #1 Type position in Canada, nipping at his heels and in sole possession of the #2 Type position is JK Eder-I CONTROL (Snowman x Bolton). At +18 for Conformation based on 161 daughters, he’s the only bull – Proven or Genomax – to sport double digit ratings for Mammary, F&L, Dairy Strength and Rump. Add to that ideal teat placement, teats slightly on the longer side and slightly lower pin setting and you have yourself another must use bull. Meanwhile DPR CARAMINATOR (Snowman x Baxter) provides the same combination of key attributes that producers are looking for (teat placement, teat length, rump angle) in a solid, balanced package.
Snowman is clearly a prolific sire of sons – he does many things consistently well through his collection of sons. Still, among them we have a breed leader for Milk and also a breed leader for Type, while a trio of them compete for best in class for F&L. They are versatile and balanced bulls that will make a positive contribution to your herd’s progress.
