It is with profound sadness that WestGen shares the news of the sudden passing of David Janssens, former President and long serving Director.
David devoted many years of leadership and service to WestGen, serving on the Board of Directors for many years and as President from 2007 to 2012. During his tenure, he played an instrumental role in shaping the organization and strengthening its commitment to serving dairy producers across Western Canada. His vision, integrity, and dedication helped build the foundation that continues to guide WestGen today.
Among David’s many lasting contributions was his leadership in establishing what is now WestGen’s Endowment Fund. His foresight created a legacy that continues to invest in research, education, innovation, youth development, and the future of the dairy industry, ensuring that generations to come will benefit from his commitment to advancing agriculture.
David was widely respected throughout the Canadian dairy industry for his thoughtful leadership, collaborative spirit, and genuine passion for agriculture. Beyond his many professional accomplishments, he will be remembered for the relationships he built, the mentorship he provided, and the positive influence he had on colleagues, producers, and industry partners alike.
The loss of a leader who contributed so much to WestGen and the dairy community is deeply felt by our Board of Directors, employees, members, customers, and industry partners. We extend our heartfelt condolences to David’s wife, Sandy, his children Nick and Gabrielle, Natalie and Oleg, Hillary and Conlin, and to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A memorial service celebrating David’s life will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Precious Blood Parish in Cloverdale, British Columbia. In honour of David’s memory, the family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to BC Children’s Hospital Foundation or the BC Cancer Foundation.
David’s legacy will live on through the people he inspired, the organization he helped shape, and the lasting impact he made on the Canadian dairy industry. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
