CE is Calving Ease and BW is Birth Weight. These are two traits that are measured when a calf is born in a beef operations. BW is measured at birth and generally lower birth weight sires are easier calving but this is not always the case. This is where calving ease comes in. Some calves that are higher BW could also be higher (good) calving ease because of the shape of the calf born. For example a calf that is higher BW but is longer and narrower will have a higher (better) CE score then one that has a lower BW and made square and block shaped.
